Timothy Potier made his first knife in 1981 in an attempt to replicate a knife a forester had used every day in the woods. Timothy retired in 2010 from the Louisiana Forestry Department with 37 years of service. After reading in Blade Magazine about the American Bladesmith Society, how a knife can cut a free hanging one inch rope with one swing, cut through 2 pine 2 X 4’s and still be razor sharp, then bend 90 degrees and not break, he had to find out if this could be true. After attending a one week course at the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing in 1989, he not only found out this is true but he immediately joined the ABS and began making knives he only dreamed about. He obtained his Jouneyman Smith rating in 1992 , then his master smith Rating in 1994. In 2008 Timothy became an instructor with the ABS, teaching how to make these phenomenal performing knives. Timothy has taught in Arkansas, Ohio, Maine, Belgium, and France. Timothy also is in charge of the ABS Youth Program. Timothy has won several knife awards including the Bill Moran Knife award in 2015.
