How To Make Slip Joints, Room 103
2:30-3:30 p.m: The basic set-up of parts, tools of the trade, jigs and fixtures and more, with Bill Ruple and Luke Swenson
I was a full time firefighter with the city of San Antonio since 1996, started making knives around 2003. I was fortunate to start my journey at the Guadalupe forge hammer in , put on my Johnny Stout and Harvey Dean in New braunfels. I made fixed blade knives only for a good while. It was at that hammer-in I met Bill Ruple, fast forward a couple of years I attended his slipjoint school put on by him and Rusty Preston. I stuck with my fixed blades another couple years. I was telling Bill I was burn out and frustrated. He convinced me to make my fist slip joint 7 years ago. The rest as they say is history . I’m now a retired San Antonio firefighter and make knives full time. I haven’t made a fixed blade sense. I’m so grateful to Bill for helping me find my true knife making passion. Many people have helped me along the way. Hopefully I am paying that forward now.
